I was hanging out with the kids, minding my own business, when I came across a FB update from Amarixe, showing a new blog post. What??!!? As soon as I saw her post, I knew these new shades had to be mine.
I did my workout during the kids’ nap, and the second they were all awake, I took them to Rite Aid for a treat. Hey, ice cream for the kids, and new makeup for mommy – win-win, right? Wrong! 1-0 kids (but I did manage to sneak a few bites of ice cream. I worked out, remember? So it was ok). The Rite Aid down the street didn’t have these…so, I figured we might as well go to the Walgreen’s across the street and check there. I mean, we were already out, right?
So picture me – the baby in one cart, diaper bag inside that cart, one twin in the seat of another cart, and the other twin sitting inside of that one. Pushing the cart with the baby and pulling the cart with the twins. Wouldn’t you want to load them all back in the car, drive across the street and do it again? Exactly. That is how bad I needed them. And of course, I walk in Walgreen’s with my crew and they don’t have it. Frustration mounts.
Fast forward to last night at 9:45 p.m. – walking out of the
third Rite Aid, and fifth store total, with the prize in hand. All four of the
new earth tone shades were mine!! And no, the kids were not with me….I’m not that bad ;-). I picked these up for
$6.69 each and received 10% off of each one. They were having a Buy One Get One
50% off on Maybelline products, but they wouldn’t give it to me on these, even
though it didn’t specifically say they were excluded. I was a little miffed,
but I was going to buy them anyway.
Now on with the only part of this you probably actually care
about reading:
The Fall 2012 “Scene on the Runway” Collection features four limited edition shades, as well as two permanent shades: Barely Beige, Mossy
Green, Gold Shimmer and Rich Mahogany are all limited edition, Bad to the
Bronze and Audacious Asphalt are part of the permanent range. They feel the
same in texture as the two previous shades I own (super creamy), and the
staying power seems just as great. They are very pigmented and I would say they
stay on better than my Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows, which I love – I washed
my arm with soap and water, and the swatches were still on my arm! Of
course, that was my arm and not my eyelids; I’ll let you know if it doesn’t
perform as well on the eyes. All swatches are on bare skin.

Aren't these gorgeous?!? I love the way the sunlight shows off these stunning shades. Top to bottom: Rich Mahogany, Gold Shimmer, Mossy Green and Barely Beige.

I’m planning on creating a look (or two) and posting
pictures later, along with any other updates. Here
are a few more pictures – I know I was dying to see as many as I could before
actually going out and purchasing.
100 Barely Beige |
I’m not sure where it originated, but I read
that this might be a dupe for Painterly Paint Pot from MAC. Sorry, not even
close, both in finish and color. Painterly is a nude peach with a matte finish,
while this is definitely lighter and shimmery. I would say it is a closer match for Bare Study, but it’s
not exact. In the pot, they look similar, but swatched on the skin, Bare
Study has a gold pearl, while Barely Beige looks a little more peach. On the
eyes, the difference isn’t quite as noticeable. If you’ve been lusting over
MAC’s Bare Study but don’t want to fork over the cash, I’d say this little
beauty is worth a try.
L-Bare Study R-Barely Beige |
The picture on the right is of several other lighter shade products (sorry for the bruises on my arm). I was messing around to see what I had close to this color already in my collection. From top to bottom, left to right:
Row 1 - Barely Beige, with Bare Study swatched directly underneath, Iced Latte (L'OREAL), Sin (UD), Nubile (MAC).
Row 2 - Barely Beige, Endless Pearl (L'OREAL), Bare Study and r.s.v.p. (Benefit).
Row 3 - Barely Beige, Tattle Tale (Benefit), Birthday Suit (Benefit), and Painterly.
Another closer up comparison, below, between fellow drugstore champions from L'OREAL, Iced Latte and Endless Pearl, and the new Barely Beige.

Continuing on with the other new shades....
Beautiful mossy green with gold shimmer.
300 Gold Shimmer |
Looks more on the bronze side, which makes me
excited! Maybe even looks a little like an antique gilded gold…I don’t know, I
never said I was amazing at describing colors.
Gorgeous dark brown with, what looks like, red
and gold shimmer. Can’t wait to try this on my eyes! Check out the photos below
for shade comparison to similar products from L'OREAL and Benefit.

After completing that first comparison, I just had to go looking in the rest of my collection to see if I had anything else close to this shade. Nope...at least, not in a similar formulation. I didn't even glance at my powder shadows - that would take too long!
What do you think? Are you on the hunt for these? Will you
be adding any of these shades to your collection?
Love it Becca! I have Bare Study which is one of my faves... I just hate getting the stuff in my fingers. Fortunately even on the go I always seem to be less than 2 ft from wipes:) I need to do a study to determine if I spend more $$$ on makeup that is cheaper or if buying less of the splurge brands is a better bet? My VIB status thru 2013 is probably a clue!
ReplyDeleteLet me know how your study turns out :). I hate getting it on my fingers, too....I have a brush from Bare Escentuals that I use to apply my paint pots. But, I usually put on my Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows and the Color Tattoos with my fingers - and I have wipes all over my house :)
DeleteThe swatches look great! I think these would be amazing for fall!
ReplyDeleteI agree! I am loving Gold Shimmer-so stunning! I just picked up a new quad from bareMinerals....I can't wait to pair the green shade with Mossy Green as a base.
DeleteFinally tried some of the Color Tattoos, and you are so right... they are amazing! Now I can't find Barely Beige and I'm in a panic. Shouldn't have waited... :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you like them!! I hope you find Barely Beige - it's such a great neutral to have. I was out today at Rite Aid without the kids (a rare occasion), and I took a look around, but they didn't have any of them out. Then again, I'm not sure if they ever had them at this Rite Aid. Good luck!!
